Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Dashboard Warning Lights Guide in New Bedford, MA
At our service center, one of the most common reasons customers come through our doors is a dashboard warning light they've never seen before. At New Bedford Mitsubishi, we want to help take the mystery out of those symbols, so here's a guide to the most common dashboard warning lights on the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross and what they mean for you.
Check Engine Light
This amber engine-shaped icon is probably the most talked-about warning light in any vehicle. In the Eclipse Cross, it signals that the engine management system has detected a fault — anything from a loose gas cap to a misfiring cylinder. If the light is steady, it's generally safe to drive, but you should schedule a service appointment soon. If it's flashing, that's a more urgent signal. You need to reduce speed, avoid heavy acceleration, and bring the vehicle in as quickly as possible to prevent potential catalytic converter damage as you drive in New Bedford.
Battery Warning Light
A red battery symbol means the charging system isn't functioning properly. This could point to a failing alternator, a weak battery, or a problem with the charging circuit. If this light comes on while you're driving, limit your use of electrical accessories and head to our Service Department promptly. Ignoring it could leave you stranded.
Oil Pressure Warning Light
This red oil can icon is one you should never ignore. It indicates that oil pressure has dropped to a dangerously low level. Pull over safely as soon as it's practical, even if it’s at Buttonwood Park, and turn off the engine. Check your oil level first — if it's low, topping it up may resolve the issue temporarily — but either way, have the system inspected before driving further. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure can cause severe and costly engine damage.
Engine Temperature Warning
When the thermometer-and-waves symbol turns red, your engine is overheating. This can happen due to low coolant, a failing water pump, or a blocked radiator. If this light appears, turn off the air conditioning to reduce engine load, and if the temperature continues to rise, pull over and let the engine cool down. Do not open the hood while steam is present. This is another light that warrants an immediate service visit.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light
The Eclipse Cross is equipped with a TPMS that alerts you when one or more tires fall below the recommended pressure. The symbol looks like a cross-section of a tire with an exclamation point inside. In many cases, this can be resolved by simply inflating the tires to the correct pressure (found on the sticker inside the driver's door frame). If the light remains on after inflation, one of your sensors may need recalibration or replacement — something we handle routinely at our service desk.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Warning
A car with skid marks beneath it, flashing briefly, is normal — it simply means the ESC system is actively working to keep you stable. However, if the light stays on continuously, it may indicate a fault in the system that needs attention before resuming your journey on I-195.
Brake System Warning
A circle with an exclamation point inside, or a "BRAKE" text alert, can indicate low brake fluid, worn brake pads, or a more serious hydraulic issue. If your parking brake is off and this light is still on, come see us right away. When in doubt, bring it in. Warning lights are your Eclipse Cross communicating with you. Our factory-trained technicians use Mitsubishi diagnostic equipment to read fault codes and get to the root of the problem quickly. Catching issues early almost always saves time and money — and keeps you safer on the road. Give us a call or book a service appointment online today.
